Is it possible to train as a paramedic while in college?

I am a part time EMT-B and have thought of training to become a paramedic. However, I am also a full time pre med college student. Is it possible to take a paramedic course while studying full time in college or would this just be suicide? I have heard most paramedic programs are one year in length, are there any shorter versions? I live in NYC. On a side note, does anyone know if med schools recogonize the difference between having EMT experience and Paramedic experience?
